Under a rock
Yes, yes, I know. Been a bit quiet here. No we haven’t been sucked into the world of Grand Theft Auto 5 (well I don’t think we have) but it is also school holidays here and our brains have been taking a bit of a beating.
Any hoo. We’ll try to update you semi-regularly.
I’m sure I had a partner
Recently, Grand Theft Auto 5 was released. Shortly after, Gamers went into hibernation, not to be seen for a while, speaking only in grunts and random expletive outbursts. They only emerge from their lairs for food and occasionally, sleep, maybe.
What’s that song?
Sometimes it unsettles me to realise the game developers are my age. For some reason, I think of them as teenagers when they most likely aren’t. So with them being my age, they would most likely know and like the same music that I know and like. Which is why I spent ages trying to work out why I knew a song in the background of a game. Aha! I heard it whilst I was at Uni. Hang on. I’m Australian and the band who wrote and performed it are Australian. Hmm. Was I at uni with a developer?
With that said, soundtracks need to be composed by someone. Why not an Aussie band?
Timing be everything. Or just serendipity (I love that word.)
The annual event that brings joy to many of my friends and myself that has no other reason that why not. It’s International Talk Like A Pirate Day! Where many Yarr, Arr, Ye Scury Dog and anything else remotely pirate is uttered. Sometimes appropriately, sometimes not. Bah.
So my pirate bretheren, get ye to the boats!
Pirate badge booty to be found ‘ere.
Things we love
It’s no secret I like coloured pencils and I love Derwent pencils the most. I’ve been using them since I was a teenager and have been dreaming of having a complete set ever since. You know the one. Wooden box. 120 different colours. So after buying the lower standard of their pencils to colour the badge characters, I announced to The Gamer I knew what I wanted for Christmas. You guessed it. Pencils. I then went online and checked the price of the set. Yep, nearly the same as the new xbox/playstation. So I’ll have to wait a bit.
In other news, I felt particularly inspired by the pirate theme, there are two new badges have joined Jolly Roger, Pirate Boy and Pirate Girl. They are available individually or as a set.
The other day I mentioned the Lego game version of Capt Jack Sparrow. Which then lead to comments about how he’s a bit yummy. I’m a bit of a fan of (Ok a whole heap of a fan) of Johnny Depp in all his shapes and forms but him as a pirate is just a bit special.
I’ve also noticed how many characters in The Gamer’s games are quite lifelike. This makes sense when they use motion capture with funny suits and dots on actual people to create the characters.
In other news. I was a bit inspired by the pirate conversation and have produced a Jolly Roger badge. Find it in the badge shop.
Shh. Secret Squirrel.
Yesterday as I was hurtling down the freeway on the way to a meeting, I followed a van with some really interesting graphics on it. As I got closer I read the name. Go Figure. I looked closer at the van and noticed what the figures were. Collectable figures. Right.
So when I eventually got home from the meeting some 4 hours later, I looked them up. Instantly, I messaged Widow 2 to have a look. We may have also agreed to NEVER show The Gamers. (Some Christmas shopping may have occurred but shh, don’t tell them.)
The Things You See Part 1.
The Things You See Part 2
Last night, some of you may have read on twitter, The Gamer was showing me the videos of the games he has on preorder. You would also have noted, I was on twitter instead of watching. Yep, they both look the same. Warriors, swords, fighting, angry voices, same same. He didn’t appreciate that. Ooops.
Now if it was a lego game, that would be different. At least they’re funny. (Have you seen the drunken way Capt Jack Sparrow walks? Hilarious.)
One, Two, Buckle my Shoe.
The Gamer regularly grumbles about how many shoes I have. Firstly, I don’t have enough. Secondly, he forgets I can count the amount of games he has.
That should sort the problem.
Why I need a scanner
As you no doubt know by now, the badge shop is open. Part of the reason it took so long to get up, is that I don’t have a scanner to upload the images after I’ve drawn them. I got a bit fed up and borrowed my brother-in-laws but I had to return it the next day. That was fine initially as I had a bunch of images ready to go and they were scanned but since then I’ve had more ideas and drawn more images and stuck without a scanner again.
This means I need to invest in another piece of equipment. Gah. So buy lots of badges so I can go get one then make more badges! See you benefit by this… They’re only $2.50. Cheaper than a cup of flash coffee……
