Every now and then, The Gamer will start to tell me something about a new game or a game he has. Might as well be speaking Swahili as I have no idea what he is saying. But The Child knows. And that’s just a little bit scary.
On a recent visit to my friend’s house, I was chatting to her son as he played Minecraft. He was doing something really slowly and awkwardly. So I explained how to quickly and easily get around it. I also managed to tell him some of the other tricks that can be done and suddenly I’m the coolest person ever. It’s a bit embarrassing as I don’t play too often but I do endure The Gamer and The Child playing and telling me about it on a regular basis.
Still, I’m cool.
A few days ago, a friend posted a picture of their Gamer with small child sitting with them whilst they played. The small child was holding a controller backwards and pretending to play. Reminded me of my family.
I must be the most awesome mum. I have spent the best part of the weekend drawing characters and stuff from games. I had to look most of them up on the internet so I knew what The Child was asking for. Little did I know there were so many.
So The Child came bouncing up to me this afternoon, excited about the new update for minecraft. This is not exactly unsurprising. What was surprising was The Gamer’s need to tell me how somehow the new tutorial update included something he’d seen on youtube or something. I don’t know. I started to fade out when minecraft was mentioned….. Anyway.
It seems The Child has known how to operate the xbox almost from the moment it came out of the box. She picked up how to use Kinect and figured out the controllers in about an hour. She’s now moved on to figuring out how to load up the movies and log into youtube. Me, I’m still trying to figure out what all the buttons do.
Whist casually watching a gaming show with The Gamer last night, I learnt something new. There are some people who get paid to play games. In fact there are entire tournaments where they will substantial amounts of money. I know of huge chess tournaments but didn’t know of computer based ones. Freaked me out.
